(Political Development of Sarawak, Since 1963)
Part II of the - Memoirs of Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Ong Kee Hui.
This book covers an important post Malaysia period 1963 - 1983 depicting Tan Sri Ong own political career from the role he played initially as constructive opposition in Council Negri and subsequently to that of joining the government as a Federal Cabinet Minister. To all who knows him, Tan Sri Ong had a strong conviction for the unity of all races which provided him with the frame of mind in the formation of the first political party as its Chairman, as a multi - racial party for a popular political movement comprising all races in Sarawak. He fervently believed that racial unity and harmony should always be maintained and strengthened. His sincerity and untiring effort to promote unity amongst the various races won him admiration and appreciation by the various State and National leaders. There were many incidents, occasions and crossroads when a wrong turn could have altered the course of his life and proved disastrous. Tan Sri Ong had proven himself to be an effective leader, acceptable to many and his views were invaluable as Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew put it " I have found Kee Hui moderate and modulated in his political position". This landed him a befitting role in the formation of a workable coalition government of power sharing in Sarawak in 1970 and the eventual formation of the National Front (Barisan Nasional) goverment in Malaysia.
Included in the book are reflections by several prominent leaders that will mirror the image of Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui.
This book will help to enlighten the people of Sarawak particularly on the State's political history and development for the first 20 years of its independence
